HOW TO MAKE A SALMON PIZZA

Pizzas are a little like James Bond films. Even the bad ones are still okay. But the best ones are a foodstuff sent from heaven on a golden plate. So how can you guarantee your next pizza will be Casino Royale rather than Die Another Day?

We suggest salmon.

How to make a salmon pizza

Okay, let’s make this simple. You can spend ages trying to make the perfect dough base. And you can spend ages only to find out that it’s awful. Leave the dough to the experts. Buy a dough base or any other base you want from the supermarket and save yourself the heartache. Instead, let’s concentrate on the flavour.

For your basic salmon pizza, start by drizzling a little olive oil onto your pizza base. Now for the cheese. Mozzarella is of course a classic, but as long as your cheese is grated then feel free to choose another type. Cream cheese works really well. Just make sure the cheese you choose is not too powerful or it will dominate the salmon.

Talking of which, smoked salmon works well. If you’re using a saucy fillet instead then cook it first as this isn’t going to take long. Once done, chop it up into bits because a whole salmon on top of your pizza will look strange.

Toppings that go well with salmon

Okay, so we have our cheese and we have our salmon. Now comes the creative bit: toppings. There are loads of choices available and in the end it boils down to what you like (note: please don’t boil down your pizza).

Here are just a few suggestions:

Capers

Avocado

Rocket

Onions

Basil

Red pepper

Tomatoes

Artichoke hearts

You get the idea. The possibilities are infinite.

Now for the easy bit. Load up your pizza with ingredients. Turn up you oven to 200 C, put the pizza directly on the shelf and leave for around 10 minutes until things start getting crispy and brown. Remove, slice up and serve.

Now settle down and maybe enjoy your pizza with a good Bond film. We’d recommend Casino Royale.
