COOKING HACKS TO SAVE YOU TIME IN THE KITCHEN

Posted 8 August 2019 by The Saucy Fish Co.

Life is short and we need to spend as much time as possible doing the things we love such as playing with the kids, walking in the country or eating.

Whilst many find cooking enjoyable it never does any harm to cut down on the time we spend doing dull tasks such a boiling eggs or cleaning up mistakes. That’s why we’re proud to present five cooking hacks that will give you more time in your life to play with those kids, walk in that country and eat that fish.

Cut softer foods using a dental floss

Don’t you hate it when you’re trying to slice something soft in half and it gets all icky, gooey and misshapen? Your friend dental floss is like a cheese parer in the way it slices through things without any fuss or mess.

Dry out herbs in the microwave

Yep, create your very own pots of dried herbs by taking the things left rotting at the bottom of your fridge, wrapping them in a little bit of tissue paper and microwaving them for a minute or two then crushing them up. They’ll last for months and not lose any flavour.

Poach eggs in little pouches of plastic

There are only two people in the world who can make consistently good poached eggs and they’re not telling us the secret. Instead wrap the eggs up in little pouches then boil them. The result is perfect eggs for your benedict and no sweating in the kitchen.

Avoid crying when cutting onions

Save your tears for more important moments in life like the last few moments of DIY SOS but putting onions in the freezer for about an hour before cutting them. Magically the ingredients that make the tears flow will no longer affect you.

Peel Fruit in the Microwave

Some fruits are stubborn little devils and, no matter how much you try, that peel won’t come off without a lot of frustration and bits under your fingernails. Pop them in the microwave for 20 seconds and you’ll find the skin just slides off. And then you’re ready for your burst of vitamin C.
